Relationship Literacy: The Missing Skill

You wouldn't try to fly a plane without lessons. Yet we jump into marriages assuming "love" is enough qualification. It isn't.

What is Relationship Literacy?

Relationship literacy is the ability to "read" the emotional room. It is knowing the difference between a compliant partner and a connected one, or recognizing an avoidant attachment style before you get too deep. It is understanding that silence is often louder than shouting.

It comprises three core skills:

  1. Self-Regulation: Managing your own nervous system so you don't flood the other person.
  2. Pattern Recognition: Seeing the cycle ("We are doing that thing again") before it spirals.
  3. Repair Proficiency: Knowing how to fix a rupture before it solidifies into resentment.
